Neville predicts Carrick will drop £19m Man Utd star vs Crystal Palace despite branding him 'really good'
Manchester United earned three points on the road against Everton in the Premier League on Monday evening.
Substitute Benjamin Sesko delivered the decisive blow, finishing off a blistering counter-attack orchestrated by Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo.
Club legend Gary Neville believes head coach Michael Carrick now has little choice but to hand Sesko a starting role against Crystal Palace next weekend.
The former United captain boldly predicted that Amad Diallo could make way, with Mbeumo shifting across to operate from the right flank.
He said (via Sky Sports): “For Sesko now, I think Michael Carrick starts him on Sunday against Crystal Palace.
“His confidence is high and I think now Carrick starts him. Just feeling how Michael would look at that, I think it would kill the lad if he didn’t start.
“I think you will see Cunha to the left, Mbeumo to the right, and Sesko will go up top. I think Amad (Diallo) will slip out for a game. He has been really good, but I think Sesko starts on Sunday.”
Amad Diallo needs to find end product
Carrick has shown unwavering faith in Diallo, handing him a place in the starting XI in all six matches since taking charge.
Prior to Monday night, the Ivorian had completed 90 minutes in four of those outings and was withdrawn only late on against Arsenal.
The former midfielder proactively made a key substitution yesterday, replacing the Ivorian forward with Sesko before the hour mark.
Signed for an initial fee of £19 million in 2021, Diallo now faces mounting pressure to sharpen his decision-making in the final third.
The 23-year-old boasts sharp dribbling ability and an impressive work rate. This is the reason why Carrick has faith in him.
However, with no goal contributions in his last six appearances, his lack of tangible output is becoming an increasing concern.
