Crighton: Trip north Lifted us for double win

SPIDERS boss Sean Crighton was pleased with the character shown in the 3-2 win against Greenock Morton, with goals from Todorov, Fieldson and Connolly helping make it back-to-back wins in the league.

Goals from Nikolay Todorov, Henry Fieldson and Aidan Connolly saw a spread from defence midfield and attack in Queen’s Park’s first back-to-back league wins this season.

The head coach said: “I knew the team would always show character to comeback and we have; I do think the trip to Ross County absolutely helped us because I wanted us to get that bonding.

“I think they absolutely deserved both wins.”

Following on from another game where Queen’s Park created a lot of chances from wide areas, Crighton praised his players for the goals scored.

He added: “It’s something that we have spoken about, we had a big team meeting and reflected on the season a couple of weeks ago, and I said to them I think we need to throw the ball in the box a wee bit more. I know that big Toddy’s (Nikolay Todorov) a man mountain in the box, but even Aidan’s goal at the back post was similar.

“It’s stuff like that we’re going on about in the meeting and the players have gone. out and absolutely executed it. So, I’m delighted with the goals and again delighted that we’ve managed to win again at home.”

The head coach was delighted for Todorov to score his first goal as a Spider, with the ball taking a massive deflection off the Bulgarian to wrong foot the keeper.

He went on: “I’m delighted he got his goal, he’s having a laugh and a joke about it, and that’s what I said to him I don’t care where it came off as long as it’s in, and to be honest I don’t think there goals we’ve scored this year.”

Crighton, Jim Duffy and the coaching staff will be hoping the side can make it three wins on the bounce come Tuesday as the Spiders take on league leaders St Johnstone at the City Stadium.
