Prep soccer roundup: Archie Williams, Tam advance in D-I playoffs
Devin Singh had a goal and an assist to lead the Archie Williams High boys soccer team to a 2-0 victory in the North Coast Section Division I playoffs over No. 9 Windsor (11-4-6) at Red Hill Park on Wednesday.
Sean Chamberlin opened the scoring for the Peregrine Falcons (14-5-3) following an assist from Singh. River Elliott provided the assist on Singh’s goal. Goalie Aidan Dunn kept a clean sheet.
The No. 8 Peregrine Falcons advance to Saturday’s quarterfinals against either No. 1 Berkeley or No. 16 Ygnacio Valley.
Tam, the No. 7 seed in the D-I bracket, also moved on courtesy of a 3-0 home win against No. 10 Amador Valley (12-8-0) on Wednesday thanks to goals from Kenneth Frost, Luke Nurney, and West Freau. Marco Caruso assisted on the first two goals and Frost assisted on the third.
The Red-tailed Hawks (13-4-4) await the winner between No. 2 San Ramon Valley and No. 15 Mt. Eden in Saturday’s quarterfinals.
No. 13 San Rafael was also slated to see action in the D-I playoffs in a night game against No. 4 Albany on Wednesday. That result was not available at press time.
- Ethan Winter netted the winning goal in the 62nd minute to lift No. 2 Branson to a 2-1 victory against Kennedy of Richmond (11-9-1) in the D-IV playoffs at College of Marin on Wednesday. Mateo Trammel scored Branson’s first goal off a corner kick in the 38th minute. The Bulls (7-6-3) host No. 10 Kennedy of Fremont in the quarterfinals at 2 p.m. Saturday at COM. Kennedy knocked out No. 7 San Domenico (9-7-2) on penalties after a 1-1 draw through regulation and overtime.
- River Alfieri scored one goal and assisted on the other one to lead No. 8 Marin Academy to a 2-1 victory against No. 9 Benicia (9-8-2) in the D-IV playoffs on Wednesday. Tom Downie had the other goal for MA (6-9-7), which faces either No. 1 Petaluma or No. 16 Justin-Siena in Saturday’s quarterfinals.
Girls soccer
Isabelle Rosetti had a pair of Olympicos among her three goals, adding an assist to lead No. 2 Terra Linda to a 6-0 win against No. 15 Athenian (9-10-2) in the NCS D-IV playoffs on Wednesday. Rosetti scored twice by bending the ball directly into the net off corner kicks. Seda Sankey had two goals and an assist for TL (7-8-5). Mabry Lance had the other goal and Nina Iyer had a pair of assists. TL moves on to the quarterfinals and hosts No. 7 Albany at 2p.m. Saturday.
- Redwood (9-6-5) — the No. 15 seed in the D-I playoffs — saw its season come to an end Wednesday following a 2-0 road loss to No. 2 Ukiah (12-5-0).
- Gianna Grasso and Samantha Rodas scored to lift No. 3 San Marin to a 2-1 victory against No. 14 Antioch (8-8-1) on Tuesday night. Grasso scored following a corner kick taken by Tatum D’Angelica to make it 1-0. Rodas scored following a free kick taken by D’Angelica for a 2-0 lead. Coach Isaiah Schwerin also noted a strong performance by Brooke Hohman in goal. The Mustangs (10-5-5) are set to host No. 6 Livermore (7-10-3) at 5 p.m. on Friday.
