Jamie O'Hara fancies £73m Man Utd star to join PL club on permanent deal
Former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Jamie O’Hara believes Aston Villa could sign Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho on a permanent basis this summer.
The England international joined the Villans on a season-long loan from the Red Devils last summer, and he has already registered 25 appearances in all competitions.
The 25-year-old has not made any meaningful contribution with just one goal and one assist, but O’Hara feels Sancho could sign for the Villans on a long-term contract.
Sancho’s current deal with United expires at the end of June, and the ex-Spurs man says Villa could reach an agreement with the forward if he accepts a huge pay cut.
In an interview with 10bet, O’Hara said: “Maybe if the wages were right, I guess. If the wages they could come to an agreement on, then yeah.
“He’s a talented football player. Man United paid 80 million pounds for him, putting him on 250 grand a week.”
“And that’s the problem they’ve had. He looked like he’d lost the fire in his belly. He looked like he was more about going out than actually playing football.
“But he looks like he’s found his way again. He’s a talented player, got tons of ability and he can make things happen.
“So if you can make a deal happen that works for both parties, then, yeah, he’s definitely worth having in your squad for sure.
“But I just don’t know what sort of wages he’s going to want.
“And that’s where I think the problem will be for Aston Villa, because they’re not going to pay 200 grand a week for Jadon Sancho.”
Sancho poised to be released by United
The versatile winger currently earns £250,000 per week. United are only contributing £50,000 weekly as part of the loan agreement.
His contract concludes on June 30, and The Sun claim that the Red Devils have no plans of triggering a one-year extension clause.
The £73 million signing will be a free agent at the end of the season, and will have the luxury of choosing his next club with the help of his entourage.
Sancho has made just two goal contributions for Unai Emery’s side this term, but has been a regular starter over the last few months.
With Villa’s financial troubles in recent times, they could consider the prospect of signing him on a free transfer.
However, a contract could depend on him accepting a sizeable pay-cut on the £200,000 weekly salary that Villa are paying him this term.
Emiliano Martinez, Boubacar Kamara and Youri Tielemans earn £150,000 per week at the Villans.
If Sancho is willing to accept a similar pay, a Bosman transfer could materialise. The signing-on fee may also need to be within Villa’s affordability range.
