Having conceded an early 0 – 2 deficit Westfield drew level by half-time. They then took the lead, and missed a number of opportunities to stretch further ahead, before an 80th minute Cobham equaliser took the game to penalties.

Cobham went first and Allan’s save gave Woking the early initiative. Manly and Richards were both successful, but when Loader missed the scores were level at 2 – 2 after three kicks apiece. Munden then matched his opponent, and when Cobham missed their final spot-kick Salman seized the opportunity to clinch victory.

Wednesday 11th February

Woking U19 (EDS) 1 – 1 Dartford: National Academy League – South Division

Woking College, Rydens Way

Report from Holly Porter

Quite the opposite to the high-scoring affair that unfolded in the reverse fixture, with a 5-3 scoreline in Dartford’s favour, this tie, although eventful from the outset, saw just one goal apiece.

“When you don’t take your chances, and gift goals like we have, once again, we have to take the point and move on”, reflected academy manager Matt Winter.

“We created numerous chances, particularly in the last half an hour, but we just weren’t able to be clinical.”

Lively from the outset, a third-minute intervention was required from Saward, as Dartford broke into the box and struck from close range, with an excellent reaction from Woking’s number one seeing Dartford denied.

Woking also looked threatening in front of goal in the opening ten minutes, most notably as Hudson-Odoi poked Vally’s cross onto the post. Another back-post chance fell for Hudson-Odoi in the 19th minute, but, on this occasion, his volley deflected over the bar.

Fingertips then denied Dartford in the 29th minute, with a corner ball being tipped over the woodwork by Saward.

After an eventful opening half an hour, it was a penalty that finally provided the breakthrough. Jennison-Leppa did excellently well to drive out of defence and slot through to Patterson, who was brought down before he could get a shot away.

With a 100% record from the spot to maintain, Trickett stood over the 33rd minute penalty-kick. Once again, he made no mistake from 12 yards, netting his tenth goal of the season, half of which have come from the spot.

The remainder of the half saw Woking in promising pursuit of a second, but despite a strong first half performance, it was a slender lead they carried into the second 45.

Half-time: Woking 1 – 0 Dartford

Hudson-Odoi’s attacking influence was evidenced once again upon the restart, with a 51st-minute effort forcing a diving save from Dartford’s number one.

The leveller came shortly after, with the visitors capitalising on a 58th-minute defensive mishap. Off his line, a miscommunication between Saward and those ahead of him saw Dartford able to slot into the net from close range.

Lewis then almost cemented his “outstanding” performance with a goal in the 66th minute, with an effort which needed to be tipped over the bar by Dartford’s number one.

As the game reached the closing stages, chances fell for both sides to edge ahead. In the 80th minute, Patterson’s delivery was headed on to the crossbar by Trickett, with the follow-up effort from Wilson being blocked. Moments later, a free-kick for Dartford struck the side netting.

A series of saves followed in Dartford’s net, firstly as Patterson found himself one-on-one with the keeper, but the shotstopper met the 83rd minute effort. Moments later, Boxall hit an effort on the turn, but he was denied by a strong glove. In the 85th minute, Trickett attempted from range, searching for the bottom corner, but, yet again, there was no way through for the Cards.

Dartford then had a chance to steal a 90th minute victory, with an effort struck from the edge of the box. Rising over the bar, the game concluded a-point-apiece despite plenty of moments for either side to produce a winner.
