Five interim managers Tottenham should consider after Thomas Frank is sacked - opinion

0 11

Tottenham have finally put Thomas Frank out of his misery, but the Lilywhites now need to find a replacement before the North London Derby.

After the 2-1 defeat to Newcastle on Tuesday night, the Spurs hierarchy finally hit breaking point and decided enough was enough.

Thomas Frank himself expected to remain in charge until at least the Arsenal clash, but he didn’t even make it 24 hours after that claim.

On Wednesday morning, Tottenham decided to sack Frank and take advantage of the fact that there are 11 days to go until the next game. But when that match rolls around, someone will have to be in charge.

Who should take charge of Tottenham now?

John Heitinga is already at Tottenham

It was already suspected that John Heitinga would be top choice to replace Frank, and he’s now surely primed to take over. The former Ajax head coach struggled in the top job over there, but he may well get a chance to show what he can do in the Premier League.

It’s worth noting that Heitinga excelled as a coach with Liverpool last season during their title-winning campaign, so hopefully he can bring that same energy if he does get the nod.

Ryan Mason has done the Tottenham job before

It feels like the only answer we’ve had to this problem for the last six years has been Ryan Mason. While he did move on last summer to take the West Brom job, he’s now available again and there’s a chance he could return to his boyhood club for one more stint in the dugout.

Harry Redknapp could come out of retirement

It’s been suggested Harry Redknapp should return to Spurs, and it’s actually not a crazy idea. He may have retired back in 2017, but the former manager said he would come back and do the job for free if he was asked. He gets the club, has the pedigree, and would certainly be able to save the club from the threat of relegation.

Does Gareth Southgate want some short-term work?

Having been out of a job since leaving the England post in 2024, Gareth Southgate has been biding his time and appears to be in no rush to take another role. It’s a long shot, but if Southgate does fancy another shot at management, this short spell with Spurs could be the ideal challenge.

Jesus Perez is the closest thing to Pochettino

Tottenham won’t be able to lure Mauricio Pochettino away from the US Men’s National Team until after the World Cup, but what about his assistant? Could Spurs get him out of his contract to come and start laying the foundations for Pochettino’s second spell at the club? It would be a unique, brave, and bizarre call, but Tottenham are definitely bizarre.
