Red Sox-Brewers Trade Shows One Pitcher Tough Reality Of MLB

The Boston Red Sox and Milwaukee Brewers completed a trade on Monday.

Boston acquired infielders Andruw Monasterio, Anthony Seigler and Caleb Durbin, plus a selection in Competitive Balance Round B of the 2026 First-Year Player Draft in the deal, in exchange for infielder David Hamilton and left-handed pitchers Kyle Harrison and Shane Drohan.

The 27-year-old Drohan found out about the trade while taking his physical, according to Boston Globe reporter Alex Speier.

“Shane Drohan was taking his physical this morning in Fort Myers when the Red Sox informed him he’d been traded. He left Fenway South about 30 minutes ago,” Speier posted on Bluesky.

With pitchers and catchers reporting to Spring Training on Tuesday, the timing for Drohan is difficult, yet not shocking.

The Red Sox selected Drohan in the fifth round of the 2020 MLB June Amateur Draft and the southpaw advanced through the minors all the way up to Triple-A Worcester in each of the last three seasons.

Drohan was terrific with the WooSox in 2025, going 5-1 with a 2.27 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 67 strikeouts across 47 2/3 innings pitched covering 12 games (11 starts).

There have been crazier times and places for a player to be sent packing but being told that you’re being traded halfway across the country right before Spring Training isn’t ideal for the youngster.

That’s the business of baseball.
