Red Sox Infielder Reportedly Suffering From Nagging Shoulder Injury

According to new intel from The Boston Globe’s Tim Healey, Boston Red Sox infielder Romy Gonzalez injured his shoulder in the final series of the 2025 regular season and has been bothered by the ailment all offseason long.

Gonzalez delivered a strong 2025 season with the Red Sox, marking a clear step forward in his development as a reliable major league contributor. In 96 games and 315 at-bats, the versatile infielder posted a .305 batting average, .343 on-base percentage, and .483 slugging percentage for an .826 OPS.

He collected 96 hits, including 23 doubles, three triples, and nine home runs, while driving in 53 runs and scoring 47 times. Gonzalez also added six stolen bases, showcasing his underrated speed and multi-faceted skill set.

Gonzalez’s performance earned him a 2.0 WAR rating, reflecting solid production across the board, particularly at the plate where he demonstrated improved contact and power. Gonzalez appeared primarily at first base and second base, providing defensive flexibility for Boston. He dealt with a brief stint on the injured list due to a left quad contusion in May but returned effectively and remained productive through the end of the regular season.

Overall, Gonzalez’s career through the 2025 campaign spans 271 games across five seasons, initially with the Chicago White Sox (2021-2023) and then Boston (2024-2025). He has accumulated a .269 batting average, 200 hits, 20 home runs, 109 RBI, and 24 stolen bases in 744 at-bats. His time in Chicago featured limited opportunities and variable results, but joining the Red Sox unlocked greater consistency and playing time.

In January 2026, Gonzalez agreed to a one-year, $1.6 million contract with Boston to avoid arbitration, positioning him as a key option for the upcoming season as he enters his age-29 year with momentum from recent progress.
