Rentless McTominay: 28 consecutive matches for Napoli and Scotland
Tomorrow’s Serie A match against Genoa will mark Scott McTominay’s 28th consecutive appearance for club and country, the 15th in a row as a starter in Serie A.
Napoli’s continuing injury woes have denied Scotland international McTominay any chance of rest.
Rentless McTominay
As reported by Corriere dello Sport, tomorrow’s away game at Genoa will be McTominay’s 15th consecutive Serie A match as a starter, the 28th in a row for club and country.
The former Manchester United star, scorer of nine goals in 33 appearances across all competitions this season, is the Napoli player with the most minutes played (2.801). More than captain Giovanni Di Lorenzo (2.751) and even goalkeeper Vanja Milinkovic-Savic, with 2.430.
What makes McTominay’s run even more impressive is that he played the full 90 minutes in each of his last 12 league appearances.
The last time he was subbed off in Serie A was on November 9 against Bologna, when he was replaced at minute 82.
McTominay the second Serie A player for minutes played
McTominay is also the outfield player with the most game time in Serie A after Juventus’ Pierre Kalulu. Considering the top five leagues in Europe, only Liverpool’s Dominik Szoboszlai (2.948) and Chelsea’s Enzo Fernandez (2.866) have had more minutes than the Serie A pair across all competitions this term.
