Rams Star Claims There’s ‘No Way’ Drake Maye Should Win MVP Over Matthew Stafford

Drake Maye will find out if he’ll enter Super Bowl LX as the NFL MVP when the league reveals the winner on Thursday night. A Los Angeles Rams player made the case for Matthew Stafford taking home the honor instead.

Rams running back Kyren Williams gave an emphatic message to anyone who considers Maye the MVP over Stafford in an interview with Sports Illustrated on Radio Row.

“There’s just no way,” Williams declared. “The things that Matthew Stafford has been doing for the last 17 years, and he’s continuing to still do it in his latest season. It’s a no-brainer.”

However, Williams didn’t want to discredit Maye while supporting his teammate.

“Drake Maye is a great quarterback,” Williams added. “Don’t let my words fool you or distract you by me saying that, but I think Matthew Stafford is one of the best quarterbacks to ever play this game. He showed us why this year.”

Oddsmakers think the voters will agree, as Stafford has gained ground as a betting favorite to win his first MVP award. Perhaps some may share the same thought process Williams hinted at and choose the 37-year-old for his career body of work rather than only weighing this season’s results.

Stafford has the edge with an NFL-leading 4,707 passing yards and 46 touchdowns, but Maye boasts a superior completion rate (72.0%), quarterback rating (113.5) and average yards per pass attempt (8.9). While the New England Patriots star has garnered plenty of MVP support with a more efficient stat line, Stafford’s gaudy touchdown tally may net him the prize anyway.

The MVP winner will be announced during the NFL Honors awards show, which begins Thursday at 9 p.m. ET on NBC and the NFL Network.
