Re: Albion in turmoil

You think our recruitment approach is solely data based and they don't watch or speak to players before we sign them?

I don’t believe our approach is solely data based, and I don’t believe Albion’s is either. Absolutely no chance of either being correct surely?

Data will be part of the picture for every club without a doubt, but it plays a bigger part for us or them is impossible to know.

How certain clubs seem to get recruitment right more than others is a massive unknown. Seems to me people start with the end result (club A has recruited well recently, they’ve got the model right; club B have bought duds, they’ve got it wrong) and work back.

It’s way more vague than that. What about clubs who had brilliant spells of recruitment, eg Leicester when they picked Mahrez etc etc in a short spell, then started to get recruitment wrong? Change of staff, change of approach, blind luck (good or bad)?

Recruitment is hard and unpredictable. Beware anyone with easy answers.

With Leicester I think it is put down to losing Steve Walsh to Everton - he's credited with finding their signings like Kante, Mahrez etc.
Cost Leicester and I think he went because Everton appointed him to a more senior position beyond his competence. Supposedly ignored his recommendations to sigh Haaland when he was still in Norway, and Robertson and Maguire from Hull.
