Patriots’ Legend Calls Out Tom Brady After Super Bowl Comment
The New England Patriots will play for their seventh championship on Sunday, but Tom Brady is not rooting for them specifically. Vince Wilfork called him out on that on Wednesday.
When asked if he was rooting for the Patriots, Brady said he has no allegiances for the game.
“I don’t have a dog in the fight in this one. May the best team win,” Brady said on “Let’s Go!” this week. “And in terms of the Patriots, this is a new chapter in New England, and I’m glad everyone’s embraced the Mike Vrabel regime, all the amazing players that have worked so hard to get their club to this position. We did it for 20 years. There was a little bit of a hiatus in there, but the Patriots are back and it’s a very exciting time for everyone in New England.”
Wilfork is a Patriots legend in his own right. He won two Super Bowls in his 11-year Patriots career. He was also named to five Pro Bowls. He is a member of the Patriots Hall of Fame, and has made it known he is pulling for the Patriots, like many of his former teammates are. He wants Brady to give a clear answer instead of playing it safe.
“It isn’t political. The (Las Vegas) Raiders are not in it. Say what it is. What do you see?” Wilfork said on WEEI. “If you’re a Patriot for life, you know what it is. Don’t give me that political bullcrap. That’s just what it is. If you don’t think we’re going to win, just pick Seattle then. Don’t straddle the fence.”
Brady is a minority owner of the Raiders now and also works as a broadcaster, where he is supposed to be objective. Perhaps that’s why he did not come out and say he was rooting for New England in Super Bowl LX.
However, Brady called himself a “Patriot for life” in 2023 when he was honored at halftime of a game. He was a minority owner of the Raiders then, too, so why did he feel like it was okay to show allegiance to the Patriots then?
Brady’s comments have gone viral. He won six Super Bowls as the quarterback of the Patriots, and plenty of his former teammates have come out and said they are rooting for the Patriots on Sunday. How come the most legendary player in franchise history won’t do the same?
