Man United confirm loan exit of 19yo wonderkid after British transfer deadline in late European twist
Manchester United have confirmed yet another academy loan exit as they continue to map out development pathways for their brightest young talents.
The club have officially announced that Sekou Kone has joined Swiss side Lausanne-Sport on loan until the end of the season.
Lausanne-Sport are an INEOS-owned club and are currently placed seventh in the League table.
Kone will now get a taste of first-team football in the Swiss Super League and will also have an opportunity to play in the UEFA Conference League.
The 19-year-old will reunite with fellow United starlet Enzo Kana-Biyik, who is also spending the season on loan at the Swiss club.
Kone moved to Carrington from the Malian side Guidars FC in the summer of 2024.
United opted to place him in the academy for the 2024–25 season so that he could adapt to English football.
His rapid progress saw him included in matchday squads under former manager Ruben Amorim last season.
Many inside the club tipped him for a first-team breakthrough this campaign, only for an untimely injury to halt his momentum.
The highly-rated midfielder suffered a fractured eye socket, forcing him into a lengthy and frustrating spell on the sidelines.
He returned in November and now it is the right time for him to play regularly in a senior set-up rather than wasting time on United’s bench.
Kone is rated highly in the academy and staff are expected to closely monitor his development on this crucial loan spell.
The teenager is a holding midfielder who is very good at breaking up play and providing security to the defence.
If he can impress over the next five months, United are expected to fast-track him into their plans for pre-season.
With potential openings in midfield, the onus will be firmly on Kone to stake his claim for a future first-team role.
United confirmed his temporary exit after the British transfer window closed, taking advantage of the Swiss window remaining open for a further two weeks.
