Tottenham complete deadline day signing, but not the one Spurs fans expected

0 0

Tottenham Hotspur have finally made a move on deadline day, with a low-key signing confirmed as the winter window enters its closing stages.

It has been a quiet transfer deadline day for Tottenham Hotspur this winter window, despite the club’s ongoing injury crisis.

Thomas Frank has been vocal that Spurs will be active in the final hours of the winter window, but only if the right opportunity presents itself.

Despite that, it has been reported that a move for Magnes Akliouche and other high-profile names is not going to happen, but Tottenham have now landed their first deadline-day signing.

Tottenham sign James Wilson on deadline day loan

According to Fabrizio Romano, Tottenham Hotspur have completed the signing of James Wilson from Scottish side Hearts.

The 18-year-old striker is set to join the Tottenham project after Spurs beat Arsenal to the signature of the forward. It was reported earlier today that both north London clubs were in the race for Wilson.

However, it is understood that the Gunners were offering a trial, while Tottenham proposed a loan deal with a buy-option clause.

An agreement between Spurs and Hearts has now been reached, with the teenager’s medical taking place and formal steps to follow.

What Wilson’s signing says about Spurs winter approach

Tottenham Hotspur fans would have been expecting more experienced signings to come through the door, but it is clear that this is not the direction Spurs are heading in this winter window.

There appears to be a decision to make do with what they already have rather than spending big, which will frustrate supporters given the club’s injury issues and poor league form.

Earlier today, it was revealed that Mason Melia is expected to remain at Hotspur Way and begin training with the first team, while Antonin Kinsky is not expected to head out on loan despite interest from several sides.
