Official: Verona sack Zanetti, Pisa sack Gilardino

Two Serie A clubs have taken the decision to part ways with their head coaches over the last two days, as Alberto Gilardino has been relieved of his duties at Pisa and Paolo Zanetti has been sacked as head coach of Hellas Verona on Monday morning.

Gilardino sacked by Pisa

Pisa announced on Sunday evening that they have parted company with head coach Gilardino, who took charge of the club at the beginning of the campaign on a two-year contract.

“Pisa SC announced that it has communicated its desire to change the technical guidance of the team despite the will and professionalism shown by Alberto Gilardino,” read a statement on the club website.

The final blow for Gilardino came in the form of a 3-1 defeat at home against Sassuolo on Saturday afternoon. Pisa have only won one Serie A match all season: a 1-0 victory over Cremonese in early November.

Gilardino leaves the club in 19th place in the league table with 14 points from 23 games. They sit four points off Lecce in 17th.

Zanetti sacked by Verona

Hellas Verona have also announced on Monday morning that they have taken the decision to part ways with head coach Zanetti.

“Hellas Verona FC announces that it has relieved Paolo Zanetti of his duties as head coach of the First Team,” Verona confirmed in a statement.

“The Gialloblu thanks Mr. Zanetti and his staff for the work carried out over the past season and a half and wishes them all the best for the continuation of their professional careers.

“Today’s training session will be led by Primavera coach Paolo Sammarco.”

Verona were soundly beaten 4-0 by Cagliari over the weekend and have not won in Serie A since their 2-1 win over Fiorentina back in December.

Zanetti leaves the club in 20th place in the league table, like Gilardino, also on 14 points after 23 matches.
