Thomas Frank names three young players he thinks will ‘score a lot of goals’ for Tottenham

0 12

Thomas Frank has highlighted the importance of Tottenham spreading their goals around the pitch, while backing three young players to become regular scorers for the club.

Tottenham Hotspur have scored 33 goals in the Premier League this season and managed another 17 in the Champions League as they secured a top-four finish on the biggest stage.

However, while those numbers are decent, the majority of those goals have come from their centre-backs, with Cristian Romero scoring six times while assisting another four in all competitions.

Micky van de Ven, on the other hand, has managed seven goals and one assist in all competitions.

In fact, in the last four outings, one of Romero or van de Ven has been directly involved in a goal for Tottenham.

Thomas Frank backs Wilson Odobert, Xavi Simons and Mathys Tel to score more goals

Indeed, it is good for goals to be spread across the team, but when the primary source is centre-backs, it begins to become a worrying sign.

Speaking to the official Tottenham channels, Thomas Frank addressed the goalscoring output from Romero and van de Ven, before explaining why he believes three young players will score a lot of goals for Tottenham.

Introducing his thoughts on the attacking options at his disposal and the impact of recent absences, Frank said: “I think first and foremost it is extremely positive that we have two defenders scoring that many goals.

“If we can add more goals from our offensive players, then we will be in a good place. I think we have a lot of offensive talent in, for example, Wilson Odobert and Mathys Tel, and I also think we have it in Xavi, he has played quite a lot, he is still only 22.

“I think all three of them will score a lot of goals going forward, but of course they are not known as proven goalscorers, or at least proven goalscorers in the Premier League. Of course, Xavi has scored quite a few goals in the past in the Bundesliga.

“So missing our main striker, I do not think he is happy with that for six months. That has, of course, been a blow, but that we needed to handle.

“So to have Dom back in, not only for his goalscoring abilities, clearly you have seen that in the two recent Champions League games, but in his hold-up play, link play and also his ability to press. He just has that presence on the pitch and that is big.”

Young Tottenham attackers are getting better under Frank

Of course, Frank is right in his assessment of these youngsters, who have looked impressive in the last couple of games.

Against Eintracht Frankfurt, Simons and Odobert were among the highest-rated players as they were key and influential in the final third.

Simons did find the back of the net, but his goal was ruled out early on, while Odobert came close to scoring, only for his effort to cannon off the upright.

The potential is there; it is now up to the Spurs coaching staff to bring out the best in these youngsters.
