Kai Andrews: First Hibs TV Interview!
Our second January addition, Kai Andrews, is "very excited" to be at Hibs after buying into Head Coach David Gray's ideas at the Club.
The combative 19-year-old midfielder joins the Club on loan until the end of the season from English Championship leaders Coventry City, adding another selection option for David Gray in the middle of the park.
Speaking to Hibs TV for the first time, the Welsh international discussed the reasoning behind the move and how he's looking forward to getting underway in Leith.
"I'm very excited to be here. It's a big club, a lot of history, a big fan base. It's a really good opportunity for me to come out here and get some good minutes, some valuable minutes, and develop on myself as a player, so I'm really excited to be here.
"The move came about recently. I got into talks with the manager, and I bought into his ideas; how he wants me to come and implement myself into the team, and so I thought it was a really good opportunity for me to come and develop myself as a player.
"A big thing that encouraged me to come out here again was the fact that I've got that experience in the Scottish league, and it's an opportunity for me to go and build on that. Plus, the minutes I've had with Coventry this season as well, there's so many lessons I can take away from it."
The Welsh international spent the second half of the 2024/25 campaign on loan at Motherwell, and played 12 times for the Fir Park outfit.
His first start, and full 90-minute appearance, occured at Easter Road and Andrews is now delighted to have the opportunity to perform in front of the Hibernian faithful on a regular basis.
"I remember that was my first start, so it was my first proper time playing in front of a big crowd.
"I realised how nice the stadium was firstly, how good the fans were. It was a really good experience to come and play here.
"Getting the opportunity to go and play out there week in, week out, honestly it's a pleasure."
Intent on joining due to the size of the Club and the philosophies that David Gray has in place, Andrews is now determined to hit the ground running at Easter Road.
"It was my first day today. They’ve welcomed me in and I trained today. It's a real welcoming group.
"I plan to just to take it all in, take all the information on board and just go and have a good start to the second half of the season.
"I just want to get as much minutes as I can, help us secure that top-six position and just push on to climb the table.
"I think the biggest thing for me is the energy I can bring in midfield," he added, discussing his player profile. "I'm quite direct when I get the ball, so I want to excite the fans by going forward!"
