Enraged Future Hall Of Famer Goes Off On ‘Knock-Off’ HOF After Bill Belichick Denial
A Tuesday night bombshell report announced that former New England Patriots head coach, and eight-time Super Bowl champion, Bill Belichick would not be elected to the NFL Hall of Fame in his first year of eligibility.
Belichick was ten votes short of the 50 needed.
In mere minutes, the internet was flooded with Hall of Famers and analysts alike calling out the utterly disappointing snub.
NFL legend and presumed first-ballot Hall of Famer (although after this, who knows anymore), JJ Watt took to X to vent his disappointment.
“I can’t be reading this right,” Watt wrote. “This has to be some knock-off Hall of Fame or something, it can’t be the actual NFL Hall of Fame.
“There is not a single world whatsoever in which Bill Belichick should not be a First-Ballot Hall of Famer.”
It’s hard not to agree with Watt here.
Only three coaches have been first-ballot Hall of Famers since the inaugural Hall of Fame class in 1963: Don Shula, Chuck Noll, and Tom Landry.
Shula is the only head coach in history to have more wins than Belichick, but when it comes to Super Bowl rings, Belichick has four times as many.
Noll is the only other head coach in history to win more than three Super Bowls, but his four isn’t quite comparable to Belichick’s six.
Landry won two rings and invented the shotgun, but had he coached four more seasons and gone undefeated in every single one, he still wouldn’t have as many career wins as Belichick.
I personally don’t know how the league can ever restore validity to the NFL Hall of Fame. No amount of sense and reason could ever explain how the legendary Bill Belichick could be stripped of this honor.
