Tottenham told there may be one problem with their Micky van de Ven stance
Journalist Pete O’Rourke has revealed what Tottenham Hotspur may have trouble brewing with Micky van de Ven’s future after Liverpool’s interest in the centre-back came to light.
Over the past 12 months, many of the biggest clubs in Europe have been credited with an interest in Van de Ven.
Over recent weeks, it has emerged that Liverpool are now plotting a move for the Spurs centre-back next summer after identifying him as the long-term heir to Virgil van Dijk.
However, it has been widely reported over the last few days that Tottenham have no intention of parting ways with Van de Ven, who still has three-and-a-half years left on his contract.
Tottenham warned Micky van de Ven could push for a move
It has been suggested that Spurs will demand over £100m for Van de Ven, and are hopeful that his suitors will be scared away by the price tag.
However, O’Rourke believes that the centre-back could push to leave Tottenham Hotspur at the end of the season if the Lilywhites do not show signs of improvement over the coming months.
When asked about the speculation over the Dutchman’s future, O’Rourke told Football Insider: “If Tottenham aren’t playing Champions League football next season, maybe van de Ven could eye a move away to play at the highest level.
“A player like him will want to playing in the Champions League on a regular basis and be competing for silverware as well. It’s not going to be an easy deal to do. I’m sure there’ll be a lot of clubs, not just Liverpool, who would be interested in Van de Ven if there’s any indication that he wants to leave Tottenham anytime soon as well.
“He’s under a long-term contract until 2029, and we know Spurs are tough negotiators, so they’ll be looking at a big, big fee for Van de Ven as well. But as I said, if Tottenham aren’t showing improvements on the field, maybe that might see the player himself try and push for a move away.”
Spurs’ contract talks with Van de Ven have halted
It was reported a couple of days ago by TEAMtalk that although Spurs have prioritised tying the Netherlands international to a new deal, it is not proving so simple.
It was claimed that Tottenham’s contract talks with Van de Ven have ground to a halt, with the Lilywhites finding it difficult to convince the defender to commit his future to the club due to the team’s struggles on the pitch.
However, the outlet claimed that the North Londoners remain hopeful that the former Wolfsburg man will eventually sign on the dotted line.
