Carrick to make 1 big change vs Fulham as £62.5m Man Utd star returns
Manchester United interim manager Michael Carrick could make one big change to the starting line-up for Sunday’s Premier League game against Fulham at Old Trafford.
The Red Devils secured a second-straight league win after a fabulous performance against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday. Matheus Cunha scored a late winner in a 3-2 victory.
The squad should be beaming with confidence after back-to-back wins over Manchester City and Arsenal, which have propelled the club into fourth place in the league standings.
The onus is now on building a long-winning streak. Their next challenge will be against Fulham.
Carrick may ideally prefer an unchanged XI for the third-straight game, but the 44-year-old could be forced to make a solitary change with Patrick Dorgu apparently doubtful.
Dorgu was substituted late on against the Gunners after clutching his hamstring. Carrick said the Dane will be further assessed, but he is facing a race against time to face the Cottagers.
If that ends up being the case, Matheus Cunha looks a shoo-in to make the starting XI on the left wing on the back of two sublime cameo performances versus Man City and Arsenal.
The £62.5 million signing came off the bench to provide a crucial assist for the second goal against Man City. He fared even better against Arsenal, scoring a late 87th-winner at the Emirates.
Cunha had a slow start to his United career, but he has managed six goal contributions in his last nine appearances for the Mancunian giants. The 26-year-old is finding form when it matters.
In case Dorgu is deemed fit to start on Sunday, we would still prefer Cunha getting the nod in the starting XI ahead of Amad. Carrick has a big selection decision to make against Marco Silva’s side.
