Tottenham told they will struggle to sign 24-year-old from Big Six rivals

0 1

Former Tottenham scout Mick Brown, who is well-connected with influential figures in the game, believes Spurs will not be able to land the Premier League midfielder they are after.

Despite landing Conor Gallagher this month, reports have indicated that Tottenham are considering adding another midfielder to their squad before the window slams shut.

It appears that one Liverpool man has caught the Lilywhites’ eye. Tottenham insider Paul O’Keefe previously claimed that Spurs have explored a move for Curtis Jones.

Subsequently, The Times reporter Paul Joyce also confirmed Tottenham’s interest in Jones, and suggested that the Spurs target may ask to leave Liverpool in search of regular game time.

Tottenham expected to miss out on Curtis Jones

However, Mick Brown believes that Arne Slot’s men will turn down any approaches for their academy graduates before the February 2 deadline. He claimed that Liverpool would be unnecessarily weakening their squad by letting the 24-year-old leave mid-season.

When asked about the speculation linking Jones with a move to Spurs, Brown told Football Insider: “If Liverpool let Curtis Jones leave, they’d be cutting their own throat. He’s an important part of what the manager is doing there, every time he plays he impresses and he’s the type of player who will give you 100 per cent every week.”

“Liverpool, in their current predicament, need more players like that, not to throw them away. They don’t want to weaken their squad either because they will need everybody fit and available if they want to recover their form and league position.

“I can’t see a world in which they let him go, I think they’d be extremely reluctant to do that, especially to a rival club like Tottenham. He works hard, he knows and loves the club, and he can play as well he’s good with the ball at his feet. I think if any offer came in, Liverpool would turn it down.”

Spurs have some dream big-name midfield targets

While Jones may be viewed by many as a realistic target for Tottenham, the Lilywhites are also reportedly setting their aims much higher.

It has emerged from some sources that Spurs view Adam Wharton as their dream midfield signing and would be prepared to break the bank for the Crystal Palace man in the summer.

Tottenham are also one of many clubs keeping an eye on Brighton’s Carlos Baleba, who is expected to leave the Amex Stadium at the end of this season.
