Andy Robertson’s Tottenham transfer could still go through under one condition
Alasdair Gold has revealed whether Tottenham could revive their pursuit of Andy Robertson after Liverpool blocked the transfer.
Robertson sent a hint that his appearance against Bournemouth on Saturday could be his final one in a Liverpool shirt, with the left-back waving to the away fans after the full-time whistle.
That followed days of speculation linking the Scotland international with a cut-price move to Tottenham.
However, Spurs were hit with a blow on Sunday as it emerged that Liverpool had blocked Robertson’s move to N17 as they do not have sufficient cover at left-back.
Alasdair Gold explains how Tottenham can still land Andy Robertson
Alasdair Gold has now revealed that Spurs had agreed a deal in principle for the 31-year-old last week, but one development led Liverpool to change their stance.
Arne Slot’s men decided to stop the transfer as they were unable to recall Kostas Tsimikas from AS Roma.
The journalist explains that Robertson’s move to Spurs can still go through if the Giallorossi can sign a replacement for Tsimikas and allow him to return to his parent club.
Gold wrote on X: “Understand Spurs and Liverpool had agreed in principle last week for Andy Robertson to sign after Liverpool’s final Champions League game this week, with all parties looking to proceed. The deal hinged on Liverpool being able to recall Kostas Tsimikas from Roma, but they haven’t been able to at this point. The Italian side are said to be trying to find a replacement for Tsimikas, so the deal could still happen but time is running out.”
Not all Spurs fans will be disappointed if the Robertson deal collapses
Not all Tottenham fans are on board with the idea of landing Robertson, with many feeling that the left-back is now on the decline.
Spurs would also need to pay the Liverpool man a lucrative salary to complete the signing, even though the transfer fee is expected to be low due to the full-back’s contract situation.
While it will not be a disaster if Tottenham miss out on Robertson, Spurs supporters would be concerned if no more players arrive through the door before the February 2 deadline.
