Like many, I watched the Arsenal v Man U game yesterday. It was a fantastic sporting spectacle with some great goals. Football was the winner, I have no affinity to either club but the game brought some Sunday afternoon joy into the household.
Against my better judgement, I sought some public & media opinions on the game and guess what, the internet football experts are debating the incorrect tactics deployed by a manager who has now had several seasons in the top few of one of the best leagues in the world. Further to that, these fantasy pundits are debating whether this manager should still be in his job. It's laughable really just how much the average football fan has crawled up his own arse. 18 stone Barry, who played for the Dog & Duck once when the rest of the team went down with flu and Kai, king of Football Manager and weekly podcaster to 48 people, putting the football world right.
Rewind to our game on Saturday and it's the same stuff. I didn't think it was ever going to be anything other than a gritty game. It was a hard fought 0-0 all day long, marked by 2 equally soft goals. I noticed plenty of experts laying into Ducksch but nobody was willing to acknowledge that our goal was on a par, Stansfield ridiculously free at the back post. There were elements of the game to be enjoyed and some to be endured. That's football, stop ruining it.
