'Hardest moments of my life' - Dominic Solanke opens up Tottenham injury nightmare

0 0

Dominic Solanke has opened up on his injury nightmare after finding the net in his first Tottenham start of the season.

Dominic Solanke was initially expected to return during the November international break after belatedly having ankle surgery in September.

However, his return kept being postponed, leaving many Spurs fans concerned about the centre-forward’s situation.

The striker eventually made his comeback earlier this month, coming on as a substitute during Tottenham’s 2-1 FA Cup defeat to Aston Villa, and he made his first start of the season against Dortmund.

Dominic Solanke delighted to be among the goals for Tottenham

The England international showed against Dortmund just what the Lilywhites have missed this season, impressing with his hold-up play and combining well with Spurs’ other attackers.

The 28-year-old scored a fortuitous goal, with the ball hitting both his feet before dribbling into the back of the net after hitting the post.

Speaking after his goal against Dortmund, Solanke told Football.London: “It wasn’t the cleanest of goals, but I got to see it go in in slow motion which was nice! I’m just excited to be back playing. It was my first start since last season, which was a great feeling. To get the win was the most important thing. Hopefully, we can build on that now.”

Reflecting on his long injury lay off, the striker said: “It’s been one of the hardest moments of my life. It has been quite complicated. It has been really tough, but I’m just happy to be back now and hope to be fit for the rest of the season.

“I wouldn’t say it went that far [that I would be out for the season], but it got to a point where I just didn’t quite know when I was going to be back. It’s obviously nice to have that clarity and I didn’t have that, so that was probably the hardest part. But I’m happy to be back now.”

Solanke admits it was hard not being to help his Spurs teammates

In the striker’s absence, Tottenham have struggled for goals and have slipped down to 14th in the Premier League table.

The former Bournemouth man admitted that it was hard to watch his teammates go through a difficult time without being able to contribute.

When asked about the team’s struggles during his absence, Solanke responded: “It’s been on my mind the whole time I’ve been injured. Obviously, we’re in together every day, and I come to watch the games. It’s difficult when you don’t have the chance to help and make an impact. That’s one of the hardest parts of being injured.”
