JOSH FOWLER’s second time wearing the Queen’s Park captain’s armband was certainly memorable for one young fan.
Infact, it was memorable for the captain’s armband itself for when our star striker handed over the gift – it became the Arm-bhanna a’ Chaiptein!
As with every home match this season, the skipper selected a young supporter at full-time to gift the QPSA-sponsored armband to as a special post-match memento.
Previously it’s been Euan Murray, Charlie Fox or Louis Longridge leading the side but with each missing the match with Forfar it was the top scorer who led the team out – and back in after a 90 minute battle all the way to the KDM Evolution Trophy quarter finals.
For Fowler, it was the first time he’d finished a game as captain and performed the duties by selecting nine-year-old Helen, who was attending her first match with dad Ryan.
The duo had already dropped by The city Stadium during a cycle to Hampden in the school Christmas holidays and were back for more matchday action soon after.
After landing the special gift, Helen took the armband into school to show her class-mates and, as she attends a Gaelic school, recounted her meeting with the Spiders star in both English and Gaelic.
It’s now proudly displayed alongside her dancing trophies in the youngster’s bedroom – and Josh has won over a new fan on her first match.
Every home game the captain’s armband will be handed out to a young supporter. Look out for Euan Murray, Louis Longridge, or even Josh Fowler, at full-time next Tuesday and you could be showing off the match-worn memorabilia to your friends, just like Helen.
