Luka Vuskovic admits Niko Kranjcar impacted his Tottenham decision

Spurs’ decision to sign the defender from Hajduk Split now looks an inspired call, and the defender has now admitted that the North London club’s project stood out to him amidst the offers he received.

When asked why he chose Tottenham, Vuskovic told Flash Score: “The biggest reason I decided to transfer to Tottenham was the project they presented to me and my development. Of course, as a young player, I’m now being sent out on loan, but I’m convinced I’ll fight my way back. Essentially, the main reason was their project for me, which I liked.”

Interestingly, the teenager revealed that he also spoke to former Tottenham Hotspur attacking midfielder Niko Kranjcar, who is now a Croatia youth coach, prior to his move to N17.

The centre-back added: “Niko told me he had a great time there; he said he was convinced I would enjoy myself as well. He emphasised that he met some really good people there and said nothing but positive things about the club.”

Vuskovic insists lure of Premier League was not a factor

Interestingly, though, the defender insisted that playing in the Premier League was never his biggest dream. He revealed that he was always more attracted to Spanish football, confessing that he still has the desire to test himself in La Liga in the future.

When asked if the lure of the English top flight was too much to turn down, Vuskovic responded: “To be honest, it wasn’t the Premier League I really wanted. I wasn’t thinking about playing in England.

“I was always only thinking about the Croatian league and Hajduk (Split), but of the European leagues, Spain was somehow the closest to me, and now the German league – it’s a really great league. One day I’d love to play in Spain, that’s it.”
