This Shocking Stat Shows Huge Patriots Weather Advantage Over Texans
Fans in Foxboro last Sunday reminded the NFL that Gillette Stadium remains one of the few genuine home-field advantages in the league. The next challenger that stands in the New England Patriots’ path is the Houston Texans, and they might end up getting more than they bargained for when they make the nearly 2,000-mile trip north.
Meteorologist Noah Bergen of Fox35 Orlando shared a now-viral post on X that shows that New England could be hit with some nasty weather on Sunday.
“Wow! Remarkable trend continues,” Bergen said. “Chances Patriots Texans game ends up as a snow game are rising rapidly.”
This alone would be enough to put the warm-weather Texans on notice. But a trending statistic provides more fuel to the fire.
Chicago beat reporters have been dusting off the record books as the Bears prepare to host the Los Angeles Rams in the divisional round.
While New England and Chicago share similar winters, Los Angeles and Houston have a different thing in common: both teams play inside a dome stadium.
NBC Chicago’s James Neveau crunched the numbers and found that dome teams traveling to cold environments have an abysmal playoff record.
“Teams that play their home games in domes haven’t exactly covered themselves in glory when they have to venture outdoors in the playoffs,” Neveau said. “In 17 games played outdoors when the temperature is below freezing since 2000, those dome-dwelling teams are just 2-15.”
Whether the sky opens up on Sunday or not, one thing is for certain: temperatures will be hovering around freezing for the 3:00 PM EST kickoff.
