£13m Man Utd signing faces January exit as he 'seeks clarity' from Carrick
Manchester United are not expected to make any big changes to their squad in the current winter transfer window.
INEOS pulled the trigger on Ruben Amorim last week and appointed Michael Carrick as his replacement until the end of the 2025-26 season.
It would be nearly impossible for any player to commit his future to United without knowing who will be in charge next summer.
The Red Devils have a thin squad. Chances of selling first-team players without bringing in a replacement are also very bleak.
Despite these issues, one Man United player could head for the exit door soon.
According to The Sun journalist Samuel Luckhurst, Tyrell Malacia could leave United this month with his contract set to expire in June.
The report mentioned that Malacia “will seek clarity from Carrick” before making a final decision.
The Dutch international has endured a turbulent spell at Old Trafford since his arrival from Feyenoord in 2022.
United paid £13 million to make Malacia the first signing of Erik ten Hag’s era.
The left-sided defender failed to dislodge Luke Shaw from the starting spot.
His injuries coincided with Shaw’s absence, forcing United to find temporary solutions.
Malacia suffered a serious knee injury, which forced him to go under the knife twice.
He returned after 550 days out and found himself deemed surplus to requirements under Amorim.
He was sent on loan to PSV Eindhoven midway through last season but failed to impress.
Amorim listed him in the infamous bomb squad but Malacia failed to find a suitable buyer.
He has made just one appearance for United, coming on as a substitute against Newcastle United.
The Red Devils have a final chance to cash in on the 26-year-old before he is allowed to walk away for free in the summer.
