Ex-Juventus striker explains why Spalletti ‘needs’ David
Former Juventus striker Alessandro Matri says Luciano Spalletti ‘needs’ Jonathan David as the Canada international ‘feels the goal’ and ‘knows how to move inside the box.’
David scored his second consecutive goal in Serie A, the fifth across all competitions this season, on Monday, in a 5-0 win over Cremonese.
Matri: ‘Why Spalletti and Juventus need David’
David already scored and assisted in the previous match against Sassuolo, receiving a warm hug from the whole Juventus squad after weeks of criticism.
“Spalletti needs this player; he needs one inside the penalty area that occupies the box,” Matri, a former Juventus striker, told DAZN.
‘David knows how to play inside the box’
“By the identity Spalletti is giving, playing higher up the pitch, bringing him closer to the goal, he knows how to move in the last 20 meters. He feels the goal inside the box. Spalletti needs a player like this who knows how to play inside the box.”
Juventus sit third in the Serie A table, level on 39 points with Napoli and Roma. They are just four points below leaders Inter, but the Nerazzurri have a game in hand.
