Thomas Frank dreams of new Tottenham signings after admitting worrying depth issues

0 11

Tottenham Hotspur have been knocked out of the FA Cup after just one game and Thomas Frank has hinted that the club must act soon to recover from this defeat.

There was very little optimism among the Tottenham Hotspur supporters when the team were drawn against Aston Villa, who are flying high in the Premier League table.

However, Thomas Frank avoided the mistake that past managers have made and fielded the strongest side available to him, proving that he sees the importance of the FA Cup.

Despite this, Spurs suffered a 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa and this has left the manager asking questions of those at the top of the club’s hierarchy.

Thomas Frank wants Tottenham to sign some players

There is still plenty of time remaining in the January transfer window, but Spurs need new arrivals quickly due to the number of injured plauging the Tottenham first-team squad.

Frank has indicated that this is the case by claiming he wanted to rest some of his usual starters, but he was unable to do so as a result of Tottenham’s lack of squad depth.

Speaking after the Aston Villa defeat, the Spurs boss told Football London that he didn’t have as much depth as he would have liked on Saturday evening: “Of course, that’s disappointing. I said before the game that we went full strength. There was nothing. There were players we couldn’t… should we energise.

“Micky [van de Ven] is in a top place, but that was definitely a player to think about [resting]. But we wanted to do everything we could to win the game.

“We did everything we could, especially the second half. You can see we did everything we could. Unfortunately, we faced a good Villa team as well. They made two moments. They scored two goals. We could only have made one.”

Frank added: “I think we definitely need to do everything we can to play two good halves, which is, I think every team wants to do that. Every team wants to be consistent in that aspect.

“In terms of the transfer market, as I said many times, we are out there working very hard, trying to improve the squad.”

Frank is being hung out to dry by Spurs

No matter how badly a manager is performing, questions have to be asked of those higher up the food chain when the squad is in such a poor state.

Frank is now very limited with the number of players available to him, and the club are sitting back and allowing this to happen while the transfer window is open.

Ange Postecoglou received this treatment last season, and the same thing is happening to Frank. If Spurs are to have patience and keep the Dane in a job, they need to back him with the players he needs immediately; otherwise, the next few weeks are going to be ugly to witness.
