Thomas Frank insists he did not join Tottenham to just finish second or third
Thomas Frank has insisted that Tottenham Hotspur should not be judged on league position at this stage of the campaign, with the Spurs head coach calling for assessments to be made at the end of the season.
Thomas Frank has his work cut out at Tottenham Hotspur, with results going against the Dane in recent months.
Spurs currently find themselves in 14th place in the Premier League table and are six points above 17th-placed Nottingham Forest after 21 matches this season, running the risk of being dragged into a relegation scrap.
That was almost the case in Tottenham’s last campaign, which ended rather disastrously after 22 defeats and a finish just one place above the relegation spots, but Thomas Frank believes that will not be the case for his side this term.
Thomas Frank insists Tottenham judgement must wait until season end
Frank has made it clear that he is fully aware of Tottenham’s current situation, but stressed that short-term league positions are not his measure of success.
Speaking about expectations and long-term ambitions while addressing the current league standing, the Spurs boss told football.london:
“That is impossible at Tottenham. I did not just come to this club to finish 14th, 10th, eighth, sixth, fourth, third, second. We want to build something that can be very successful all the time.”
He went on to acknowledge the present struggles before reiterating his stance on accountability, adding: “I am very aware where we are at the moment. I think it is fair to say that not many are. I know where we want to go and then we need to be judged at the end of the season.”
Spurs fans patience tested amid poor run
The Spurs boss is ultimately calling for patience, but so far, Tottenham fans have not shown a willingness to be patient with the Dane.
There have been boos directed at Frank on several occasions this season after defeats, with many supporters unconvinced by the direction of travel.
Spurs’ recent form has also been far from encouraging, with Frank’s side managing just two wins in their last 12 outings, a run that resembles relegation form and is something that should not be associated with a club of Tottenham’s stature.
