John Whitnall Obituary
It is with great sadness that Raith Rovers have learned that former Rovers’ player John Iain Whitnall passed away on December 12th 2025.
John Iain Whitnall signed for Raith Rovers from Nairn Thistle Juniors who played their football at Smeaton Park where Kirkcaldy and Dysart Juniors currently play.
Local boy John played as a left-back, signing on the 13th of September 1963. He spent a season playing for the Rovers’ Reserves before coming into the first team just over a year after signing.
Legendary Rovers’ manager George Farm gave John his first start in a team that including stalwarts Bobby Reid, Bobby Stein, Frank Burrows, Felix McGrogan and Pat Gardiner.
He made his debut against Cowdenbeath at Central Park on the 23rd of September 1964 in a 1-1 draw. He stayed in the team for six games in-a-row.
John left Raith Rovers on the 30th of April 1965.
