Tottenham want to sign £52m Brentford ace Thomas Frank backed to go to the 'next level' - journalist

0 27

While the January transfer window presents exciting opportunities for Tottenham Hotspur, it seems they may have already got one eye on the summer, too, with links to a Brentford star intensifying.

Obviously, given the connection between Thomas Frank and Brentford, there was always going to be some rumours suggesting Spurs will snatch the Bees’ best players.

We’re yet to see a Brentford player make that switch, though. Indeed, Tottenham were linked with Yoane Wissa in the summer, but that move did not materialise.

But, with the Lilywhites lacking real firepower, it’s not surprising that they’re now being suggested as a possible destination for Kevin Schade.

Tottenham among clubs keen on Kevin Schade

The latest report on the matter comes from Florian Plettenberg, who spoke out on Schade’s situation on Twitter/X on Thursday night.

He said: “Kevin Schade is one to watch for the summer, as a move after the World Cup currently appears likely. However, Brentford still want him to stay and are keen on extending his contract beyond 2028.

“Many clubs are interested. Tottenham are among the teams closely monitoring him, as revealed. Price valuation: €50–60m.”

Given Schade has six goals and three assists this season already, it’s not surprising clubs are chasing him. It would be even less surprising if Brentford weren’t able to demand that upper bracket of €60m, which equates to roughly £52m.

That’s a similar fee to the one Brentford received for Wissa in the summer. Either way, it sounds like Spurs will have to stump up big money to get their man.

What Thomas Frank said about Schade

It will be very interesting to see if Thomas Frank gets to be there for the proposed reunion with Schade. It’s thought Frank will get time to turn things around at Spurs, but if results don’t improve soon, he may not be around come the summer.

Obviously, Frank was the one who signed Schade in the first place. Speaking to BBC Sport back in 2023, he had big praise for the young German attacker.

At the time, he said: “Kevin is a young player that needs a lot of development but he has shown very good signs of what he is capable of.

“I am convinced he will be a very good player for us in the future. That is who we are. We need to develop players that can go to the next level and hopefully Kevin is one of them.”

Now, Schade appears to be fulfilling that potential. Whether his ‘next level’ will be with Spurs or not, though, remains to be seen.
