Chargers’ Justin Herbert Shares Positive Injury Update Ahead Of Patriots Playoff Game
Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert feels like taking Week 18 off did wonders did his wrist ahead of Sunday’s playoff game against the New England Patriots.
The Chargers opted not to play Herbert on Sunday due to his hand injury and gave him a week off to get ready for the Wild Card Round. After practice on Wednesday, Herbert said he’s feeling good.
“I’d say definitely not taking hits on it last week was probably pretty helpful,” Herbert said on Wednesday. “It limited kind of the swelling and just getting back to making sure that you have got full strength, being able to hold onto a football.”
Herbert suffered a fractured left hand in Week 13 and ended up having surgery on Dec. 1. Although he did play four more games after the surgery, Herbert said he’s finally feeling good and did everything in practice.
“I would say that I was able to do most everything out there,” Herbert said. “It’s just making sure I can grip on the ball and have two hands on it in the pocket. … So I think that’s been good.”
Herbert being healthy going into Sunday’s game against the Patriots is massive news for the Chargers. If Los Angeles is going to go into New England and pull off the upset, the Chargers need their star quarterback healthy and firing on all cylinders.
Herbert finished the year throwing for 3,727 yards, 26 touchdowns, and three interceptions.
Los Angeles enters its road game on Sunday against the Patriots as a 3.5-point underdog. Kick-off is set for 8 p.m. ET.
