12 duels won, 10 recoveries, 100% tackles: £25m Man Utd star dazzles in new role under Fletcher
Manchester United shared the spoils against Burnley in the Premier League at Turf Moor yesterday.
The Red Devils went into the game without a permanent manager after Ruben Amorim’s dismissal.
Darren Fletcher was placed on temporary charge. He made one change to the starting XI along with a new formation.
Bruno Fernandes started as the number 10 in a 4-2-3-1 system, with Leny Yoro dropping to the bench.
We had predicted Patrick Dorgu to start on the right wing, but the Dane was surprisingly picked to feature on the opposite end.
Benjamin Sesko made the headlines with two vital goals, but Dorgu was equally good on the left wing with a superb all-round display.
The £25 million signing delivered a peach of a cross for Sesko’s second goal on the night.
Aside from this, Dorgu won a stunning 12 duels, made 10 recoveries and had a 100 percent tackle success rate (4 out of 4). He created five chances.
The former Lecce man has been one of the bright sparks for the Red Devils over the last few weeks, and continued to excel last night.
He is obviously better higher up the field with lesser defensive responsibility, and made a crucial contribution in the 2-2 draw.
Dorgu has found success as a right winger in his young career, but the decision to play him from the left wing was definitely a surprise.
Fletcher’s decision proved worthwhile with the Dane providing the assist for Sesko’s second goal, which secured a point for the club.
Dorgu is likely to continue in his new attacking position when the Red Devils host Brighton & Hove Albion in the FA Cup third round on Sunday.
There is a possibility that both Bryan Mbeumo and Amad Diallo could be available if their respective countries bow out of the Africa Cup of Nations at the quarter-final stage.
Still, Dorgu should continue in the starting XI for the Red Devils on current form. Matheus Cunha could make way if Fletcher contemplates a change on the right wing instead.
