Weekend preview: Bassett host title chasing Swans

0 1

Two of Royal Wootton Bassett Town's three most recent Hellenic League Premier Division home fixtures have seen them host teams in the title mix. And that tough stretch continues on Saturday when Slimbridge are the latest visitors to the Gerard Buxton Sports Ground (3pm kick off). Having drawn with Droitwich Spa and pushed Roman Glass St George close (while also winning away at playoff hopefuls Cirencester Town), Jonny Aitkenhead's side will go into the game unfazed as they look to extend their decent run of form. Having won just one and lost seven of their opening eight league fixtures, three wins and a draw mean that Bassett are unbeaten in four against the Swans. But with Slimbridge riding high, Bassett will enter their latest meeting as underdogs - though that is a role that they have been relishing of late. Admission on Saturday is £8 for adults, £5 for concessions and free for RWBTFC youth members. Also on Saturday the Development team face a difficult test away against Melksham Town Reserves - a side Bassett are vying for position with in the Wiltshire League Premier Division (2pm kick off). Melksham won 5-2 when the teams met on opening day - their sixth straight league win against Bassett. But Mark Simpkins' team exacted revenge with an impressive 3-1 Wiltshire Senior Cup victory in October and will be aiming to emulate that result in their latest league encounter. - Royal Wootton Bassett Town Men's First Team are proudly sponsored by Imagine Cruising.
