Aston Villa enter race with Tottenham to sign £59m AFCON quarter-finalist
Tottenham Hotspur now face competition from Aston Villa in the race for a Premier League forward.
Spurs are set to miss out on their top target, Antoine Semenyo, who is expected to complete a move to Manchester City.
The big question is which winger/forward the Lilywhites will turn to, with several big-name attackers thought to be on Tottenham’s wishlist.
It emerged a couple of weeks ago that Tottenham are plotting an ambitious move for Omar Marmoush, who has found game time hard to come by at Man City this season, but Thomas Frank’s men now face competition for the player.

The hope at Spurs is that Man City may be willing to let Marmoush leave once they land Semenyo.
Dean Jones has now revealed that Villa have also entered the race for the Egyptian striker, but the journalist is not convinced that Pep Guardiola’s men will sell the former Eintracht Frankfurt player.
Jones told TEAMtalk: “There are whispers emerging out of Egypt that Aston Villa are making a move for Marmoush. The idea is fascinating, and as a club that have tried to bring Rashford and Sancho and Elliott back to life in the Premier League, it is reasonable to imagine that they fancy Marmoush to be next.
“His game time at Man City hasn’t been what he would have hoped, and we have reported that Villa are on the lookout for another player for the front line to give them a better chance of sustaining the form they have shown recently.
“But we have also been told recently, though, that Man City do not want to lose Marmoush. That was in connection with Tottenham enquiries about the player – so I cannot imagine they would have too much appetite to let him join Villa, who are an even bigger threat to them this season.”
Could Marmoush ask to leave Man City this month?
Jones’ opinion is also shared by David Ornstien, who suggested last week that Man City will not let any of their key attackers leave despite landing Semenyo.
However, Marmoush has started just twice in the Premier League this season, and the likes of Spurs and Villa may be hoping that the 26-year-old, who was signed by City for £59m a year ago, asks to leave.
The forward is currently with the Egyptian squad for the African Cup of Nations, and the North African side’s head coach, Hossam Hassan, has said that Marmoush will be an asset for any side in the Premier League.
