Antoine Semenyo rubs salt in the Tottenham wound ahead of Man City transfer
Tottenham Hotspur had long since admitted defeat in the race for Antoine Semenyo, but they look set to suffer one final blow in the transfer saga.
Tottenham Hotspur need to improve their squad now more than ever, especially in attack, following the departure of Brennan Johnson.
The Wales international’s exit has left Spurs short in wide areas, a position they had been actively looking to bolster long before the January window opened.
Antoine Semenyo was one player on Tottenham’s radar, with Spurs keen to land him this winter, but they pulled out of the race for the Ghana international, who is now set to join a top-four rival.
Tottenham Hotspur to face Antoine Semenyo before Manchester City move
According to David Ornstein, it is believed that Semenyo’s final game for Bournemouth before his move to Manchester City will be against Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday night.
The two sides are set to take on each other in the Premier League in front of the Cherries supporters at the Vitality Stadium.
It is claimed that there was an agreement between all parties that the 25-year-old winger would play his current side’s games against Chelsea, Arsenal and Spurs before completing the switch to the Etihad Stadium.
However, after the game against Tottenham, steps are expected to be taken to finalise the impending transfer.
What Semenyo’s involvement means for Spurs
Semenyo’s involvement in Wednesday’s clash is set to give Thomas Frank and his defenders something to think about, as the wide forward carries both a creative threat and a goalscoring one.
This would mark the second time Tottenham would face Semenyo this season and there could potentially be a third should he complete his move to Manchester City, with Spurs still due to play the reverse fixture against Pep Guardiola’s side.
Tottenham, however, need to learn from Manchester City, who are looking to land their winter targets quickly rather than waiting late into the window, something Spurs have not done so far, with almost a week already gone since the window opened and no new signings through the door yet.
