UCL winner set for shock Man Utd coaching return to help Fletcher vs Burnley
Manchester United are set to face Burnley at Turf Moor tomorrow.
Darren Fletcher is set to lead the side from the touchline after United brutally sacked Ruben Amorim from his managerial position.
The Athletic have now revealed that former Man United defender Jonny Evans will be added to the coaching staff.
This move could be fast-tracked to ensure that Evans can assist Fletcher in tomorrow’s Premier League clash.
Evans officially drew the curtain on his playing career at the end of last season, closing a chapter that spanned nearly two decades at the top level.
Across two spells at Old Trafford, he made 241 appearances and lifted the UEFA Champions League (UCL), three Premier League titles, the FA Cup and two League Cups.
Following his retirement, Evans transitioned into an off-field role as head of loans and pathways, but stepped down last month to prioritise family life at the age of 37.
A hugely respected figure within the club, Evans already shares strong relationships with many current squad members, having played alongside them over the past two campaigns.
There is no doubt that he will add more experience to the coaching staff.
Fletcher could act as a caretaker manager for the rest of the season but United are also considering Ole Gunnar Solskjaer or Michael Carrick for the remaining six months.
United may be engulfed in uncertainty after another managerial upheaval, but the bigger picture remains very much alive.
Sitting sixth in the Premier League, a strong run of results could still propel the Red Devils back into the Champions League next season.
