Jets Star Running Back’s Time In New York Likely Finished
The New York Jets are positioned to end the season with yet another top-ten draft pick and are in danger of falling to 3-14 in head coach Aaron Glenn’s first year with the team.
Their offense ranks in the bottom five in both yards per game and points per game.
The team announced Saturday that they will be without the player who leads the team in all-purpose yardage, Breece Hall.
Hall has played in all 16 games this season, but has now been downgraded to “out” with a “knee injury” despite taking his 14 carries for 111 yards and a touchdown last week against the New England Patriots.
The timing of the announcement, as well as the circumstances regarding Hall’s contract, make this move peculiar.
When Glenn took over as head coach in New York, three massive extensions were given out. The first went to Sauce Gardner, the second went to Garrett Wilson, and the third went to Jermaine Johnson.
All four players (Hall, Gardner, Wilson and Johson) were selected in the first 40 picks of the 2022 NFL Draft.
Only one of the four did not receive an extension, and that was Hall.
Speculation began to brew that this could be the 24-year-old back’s final year with the Jets before the season even started.
Hall’s disappearance from the team’s final game of the season with a phantom injury seems to be the final nail in the coffin.
Hall averaged 1,453 total yards per season in the three years following his rookie campaign.
He will be one of the best free-agent running backs available should the team elect not to re-sign him.
