Ayr Utd v Queen’s Park – Match Preview

0 11

SEAN CRIGHTON’S Spiders are the first foot of Ayr United as the William Hill Championship kicks off 2026.sd

Somerset Park saw a 1-1 draw between the sides on Queen’s Park’s last venture down the M77 – and travelling fans will be hoping to spy a new signing in the ranks.

The head coach has been hard at work since the transfer window opened and hopes are high there could be a new face within the squad, subject to  paperwork being completed on time.

Grant Savoury trained at chilly Lochinch on Friday

With the Spiders on a run of three wins from the last six and only one defeat in those half dozen games, they head south with confidence following displays against Partick ThistleAirdrieonians and Dunfermline Athletic.

The Season so far...

Queen’s Park and Ayr Un ited have been hard top separate on the pitch this season – but 10 points and four Championship placings are between Saturday’s sides.

Scott Brown’s side salvaged a point on the last meeting in Ayrshire with a late own goal off the knee of Matty Shiels, and the corresponding fixture at The city Stadium saw 10-man Queen’s hold on for a valiant draw after Henry Fieldson was red carded.

The Honest Men and Spiders have similar form with two wins and two draws from their last five games – and the Spiders are on the back of three wins in the last six across all competitions.

Cal Ferrie was on top form in the 0-0 draw

Both will be aiming to kick off the new year with a continuation of that form as we enter the busy January and February spell.
