Thinking about what we do well vs what we don't and what we lack.
What we do well:
Retain the ball between defense and midfield, using triangles and first-time passing.
What we don't do well/what we lack:
Counter-attacks/fast breaks/moving the ball quickly and positively (too hesitant)
Strength/aggression
Pace throughout the team
Retaining possesion in the opposition half
Height throughout the team
Decision making/vision/passing variation/creativity
Quality and variation in crossing
Heading ability (bar Dykes)
Finishing chances
Discipline
Reaction speed
Defensive positional sense
Attacking movement
Concentration and composure
Mentality to win at all costs/resilience/confidence/leadership
All the traits we lack i feel are fundemental to being a sucessful Championship team. I know we have injuries and suspensions but we look like whipping boys at the moment.
For me the season is a write-off already and I don't particularly believe we'll address any of these issues properly in January. I'm quite worried about this data driven approach because the things we currently lack should have been the focus in recruitment over summer. Overpriced 'statement' signings and signing players with no resale value should be automatically ruled out if we want to be a 'smarter' club (even more so if they are unproven in the Championship).
