Mid-season Man Utd player ratings: Two 3/10s must be sold, 9/10 for Fernandes but two 6/10 forwards need goals now

0 0

Manchester United brought down the curtain on their 2025 with a frustrating draw against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Tuesday evening.

The result also marked the halfway point of the 2025–26 Premier League season, with all teams having completed 19 league fixtures.

That milestone gives us the perfect opportunity to assess how every United player has performed across the first half of the campaign.

Player Ratings

Senne Lammens – 6/10

Lammens had to remain patient for his opportunity, but when it finally arrived, he made an immediate impact with a clean sheet against Sunderland.

He has brought much-needed stability between the sticks but two clean sheets in 12 games leave room for improvement.

Thanks to Andre Onana and Altay Bayindir, the bar for United goalkeepers has been set worryingly low.

Altay Bayindir – 2/10

Bayindir got his chance to stake a claim for the starting spot but lost it after conceding 11 goals in six games.

He showed huge improvement in his ball distribution but continued to make errors in shot-stopping. Not good enough to be at United next season.

Tom Heaton – NA

Yet to play.

Leny Yoro – 4/10

Yoro began the campaign with genuine promise, but costly errors against Brighton, Bournemouth, Crystal Palace and Everton have stalled his momentum.

There is no questioning his talent, and the second half of the season must now be about regaining confidence and rediscovering his best form.

Noussair Mazraoui – 5/10

Mazraoui showed intent and composure when deployed as a right centre-back, but his influence drops significantly when asked to operate as a wing-back.

Injuries and AFCON commitments have further disrupted his rhythm, making consistency difficult to establish.

Matthijs de Ligt – 8/10

De Ligt played every minute of this league campaign before a back injury forced him out.

He has been in sensational form and is one of the genuine contenders for the Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year award.

Harry Maguire – 6/10

His late winning goal at Anfield will always be remembered fondly, as should his resurgence at United.

Injuries have restricted his game time and could now leave for free in July once his contract expires.

Ayden Heaven – 7/10

After a shaky first start against West Ham, Heaven has grown remarkably with each appearance.

Standout performances against Newcastle and Aston Villa showcased his elite composure, confidence on the ball and impressive technical quality.

Luke Shaw – 6/10

Started the season slowly and got bullied at the Etihad Stadium.

Since then, his form has steadily climbed, and remarkably, he is the only United player to have started every league game so far. Truly astonishing!

Lisandro Martinez – 6/10

Martinez returned from injury in November and immediately reminded everyone of what United had been missing defensively.

His aim must be to avoid injuries until the end of this season.

Diogo Dalot – 5/10

Dalot has shown improvement and commitment, but he still lacks the natural instincts required to thrive as a wing-back.

Having said that, his versatility and availability must be applauded.

Patrick Dorgu – 4/10

His match-winning display against the Magpies has helped him to earn a bonus point.

Looks very raw to be the first-choice wing-back at Old Trafford.

Amad Diallo – 7/10

Diallo struggled in the first few games but has made a solid comeback.

With two goals and three assists, he has looked even more dangerous than the numbers suggest, especially in the right wing-back role.

Casemiro – 6/10

Many pundits disregarded him after one poor season but Casemiro continues to shut those critics up.

While he no longer has the legs to press relentlessly for 90 minutes, his experience, positional intelligence and goal threat have brought much-needed balance to midfield.

Four goals and one assist from a holding midfielder is no small contribution.

Bruno Fernandes – 9/10

Despite being persistently deployed in a deeper number-eight role, Fernandes continues to dictate games and create chances at an elite level.

With 12 goals and assists combined, he trails only Erling Haaland and fully deserves a place in the Premier League Team of the Season so far.

A couple of costly defensive lapses take away one point.

Kobbie Mainoo – 5/10

A lack of minutes have not helped Mainoo’s cause.

That said, his substitute appearances have also lacked the spark needed to force Amorim into handing him more starts.

Manue Ugarte – 3/10

Robust ball-winner but does not have the courage to play incisive balls forward.

His tendency to vacate his position to press has often left gaps behind him, preventing him from being relied upon as a disciplined number six.

Bryan Mbeumo – 9/10

Mbeumo has forged a devastating partnership with Diallo down the right flank.

The 26-year-old has scored important goals, created key chances and is the closest rival to Fernandes for the Player of the Season award.

Matheus Cunha – 6/10

Cunha brings flair, confidence and fight, qualities United have sorely lacked in recent seasons.

He has undoubtedly raised the attacking standard but must now translate that energy into consistent end product.

Mason Mount – 7/10

Mount has been in good form this season. He is a player who has the most experience of playing in this formation and his movements show that.

With three goals already, he has laid a solid foundation to elevate his performances further in the second half of the season.

Benjamin Sesko – 6/10

His contribution has been much more than just two goals and one assist.

His hold-up play, link-up ability and physical presence have been refreshing, especially when compared to United’s struggles up front last season.

Joshua Zirkzee – 3/10

Lacks pace to be a natural striker and is not hardworking enough defensively when playing as a number 10.

Despite finding the back of the net twice, United could allow him to leave this month, with AS Roma interested in signing him.

Tyrell Malacia – NA

Made a single cameo appearance and looks increasingly likely to move on next month.

Tyler Fredricson – 4/10

Looked like a boy in a men’s game against Grimsby Town.

A loan move could be the ideal next step in his development.

Jack Fletcher – 5/10

Already featuring three times for the first team, Fletcher is learning first-hand just how steep the Premier League learning curve can be.

Shea Lacey – NA

Lacey made his debut against Aston Villa but has yet to earn further trust from Amorim.
