There Is 1 College Football Playoff Game, 4 Bowl Games on New Year's Eve - Here's The Schedule
The college football season rolls on with five games schedule on New Year's Eve. Four bowl games will serve as an appetizer before the second round of the College Football Playoff takes center stage with a battle between Miami and Ohio State.
The Hurricanes secured a place in the second round with a strong defensive performance against the Texas A&M Aggies in the first round. Ohio State, meanwhile, will be well-rested after securing a bye through the first round after finishing the season as the No. 2 team in the country.
Ohio State's Ryan Day Makes Big Change
Ahead of the playoff matchup against Miami, Ohio State head coach Ryan Day revealed he'd be taking over play-calling for offensive coordinator Brian Hartline, who accepted the job as South Florida's new head coach - but will remain with Ohio State through the playoff run.
"We wanted to take [playcalling] off of Brian's plate because he's got so much going on with what he's trying to do," Day said. "Ultimately it will be my decision what calls go into the game.
"It's such a strange calendar and the timing is brutal. But he's handled it great, as you can imagine. It's a lot on his plate. It's a lot to manage. So we're kind of taking it day-to-day right now, just in terms of as we move forward."

- No. 23 Iowa vs. No. 14 Vanderbilt at 12:00 p.m. ET in the ReliaQuest Bowl on ESPN
- Arizona State vs. Duke in the Sun Bowl at 2 p.m. ET on CBS
- No. 18 Michigan vs. No. 13 Texas in the Citrus Bowl at 3 p.m. ET on ABC
- Nebraska vs. No. 15 Utah in the Las Vegas Bowl at 3:30 p.m. ET on ESPN
- No. 10 vs. No. 2 Ohio State in the Cotton Bowl Classic at 7:30 p.m. ET on ABC
The winner of the Miami-Ohio State game will face off against the winner of a rematch between No. 3 Georgia and No. 6 Ole Miss.
