Thomas Frank makes Brennan Johnson statement amid £35m Tottenham sale rumours
Thomas Frank has now addressed transfer speculation linking Brennan Johnson with a move away from Tottenham in January.
It has been an eventful last few hours for those linked with Tottenham Hotspur, as the possible departure of a high-profile player has made the headlines.
Brennan Johnson, 24, a cult hero following his famous toe poke a few months ago in Bilbao, Spain, is now edging closer to a move away from Spurs in January.
That is according to reports which state that Tottenham and Crystal Palace have agreed a £35m fee for Johnson, with the forward set to have the final say.
Thomas Frank comments on Brennan Johnson’s Tottenham future
Interestingly, for both Spurs and Johnson, the winger’s options are not limited, as six other clubs continue to lurk while expressing interest in poaching the forward, who managed over 20 goal contributions last season.
Thomas Frank has now addressed the latest transfer speculation surrounding the Welshman, who has struggled for game time under the Dane.
Asked about the rumours involving Johnson, Frank addressed the situation when speaking to Football London, saying: “Again, it’s the third time I’ve had that question. I won’t comment on rumours. Brennan has been a top professional. Trained well today and is ready in two days’ time.”
He added: “As I said, Brennan is a very important player for us. Sometimes things change if another player comes in. Unfortunately, Kudos came in for him and played on the right side and has done well. So it’s been a little bit more tricky to get enough starts. He started the season also quite well from the left.
“I think Brennan has a lot of attributes. Very good running in behind, very good scoring goals. That’s a good quality. So some of those key things is fantastic. Also working hard for the team, but you need more than just 11 players. That’s the way it is. I think Brennan has been a top professional, is a top professional, trained well today. He’s ready for two days’ time.”
What Johnson’s potential exit could mean for Spurs
Reports have also claimed that Tottenham have now identified a big-money replacement for Johnson should he depart in the winter.
Spurs had remained in the race for Semenyo for a long time, but pulled out in recent weeks, making Manchester City the favourites to land the Ghana international.
However, with a £100m cash injection and a possible extra £35m from the sale of Johnson, it is understood that Tottenham could push ahead with a move for RB Leipzig’s Yan Diomande, a player they have been linked with for some time.
