3-4-2-1: Amorim already knows how to fix Mount injury blow for Wolves clash
Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim confirmed worrying injury news ahead of the Premier League showdown with Wolverhampton Wanderers.
United are already stretched thin with seven first-team players ruled out, including creative midfielders Bruno Fernandes and Kobbie Mainoo.
Further concern surrounds Mason Mount, who was forced off at half-time against Newcastle United and now appears a serious doubt for Tuesday’s encounter.
The United head coach threw a curveball by fielding his side in a 4-2-3-1 formation against the Magpies.
However, the injury to Mason Mount could immediately undo that experiment and push Amorim back towards his trusted 3-4-2-1 shape.
If Mount misses out, Leny Yoro could be drafted into the starting XI, slotting in at right centre-back.
That shift would likely see Ayden Heaven and Lisandro Martinez complete a three-man defence, freeing Luke Shaw to operate higher up as a left wing-back.
Diogo Dalot could operate from the right wing-back position.
Casemiro and Manuel Ugarte could start in midfield again, with the 24-year-old granted licence to hunt the ball and press aggressively.
Benjamin Sesko is expected to retain his starting position with Matheus Cunha in the left-sided number 10 spot.
Patrick Dorgu showed against Newcastle just how dangerous he can be when given the freedom to attack without restraint.
He proved to be the match-winner against the Magpies and could now start in the right-sided number 10 spot.
This may not represent United’s strongest XI, but circumstances leave Amorim with little choice but to improvise.
With injuries mounting and AFCON absences further thinning the squad, the United head coach must rely on internal solutions and tactical flexibility.
