State of play for COSAFA sides at TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025

The seven COSAFA sides at the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025 are still mostly in contention for a place in the Round of 16 heading into the decisive third round of group games starting on Monday.

Here is the state of play for the teams.

ANGOLA
Angola opened their TotalEnergies CAF AFCON Morocco 2025 Group B campaign with a 2–1 loss to fellow COSAFA side South Africa despite a competitive performance that kept them in the contest for long spells. That was followed by a 1–1 draw against another Southern African rival in Zimbabwe, showing resilience and attacking intent as Gelson Dala found the net before the Warriors equalised. With one point from two matches, Angola head into their final group fixture against Egypt on Monday knowing that a positive result should still see them advance, potentially as one of the best third-placed teams.

BOTSWANA
Botswana’s TotalEnergies CAF AFCON Morocco 2025 journey has been a challenging one. They began their Group D campaign with a 3–0 defeat to Senegal before suffering a narrow 1–0 loss to Benin in their second outing. The results leave Botswana without a point or a goal and already eliminated from contention. They will now look to end their tournament on a positive note when they face DR Congo in their final group match on Tuesday.

COMOROS
Comoros started their Group A campaign with a 2–0 defeat to hosts Morocco but responded well in their second match by holding COSAFA rivals Zambia to a goalless draw. That result earned them their first point of the tournament and kept their qualification hopes alive heading into the final round of group matches. Comoros now face Mali on Monday knowing a strong performance could still open the door to progression to the knockout stages.

MOZAMBIQUE
Mozambique have provided one of the standout moments among COSAFA nations at TotalEnergies CAF AFCON Morocco 2025. After a difficult start, they secured a historic 3–2 victory over Gabon, their first ever win at an Africa Cup of Nations finals. That breakthrough result has placed the Mambas firmly in contention for progression from their group and injected belief into the squad ahead of their decisive final group match against Cameroon on Wednesday.

SOUTH AFRICA
South Africa began Group B with a hard-fought 2–1 victory over Angola, setting a positive tone early in the tournament. However, they were narrowly beaten 1–0 by Egypt in their second match, leaving them on three points after two games. That result means Bafana Bafana head into their final group encounter against Zimbabwe on Monday knowing that a draw would be enough to secure qualification.

ZAMBIA
Zambia opened their Group A campaign with a solid 1–1 draw against Mali before sharing the points again in a 0–0 stalemate with Comoros. The two draws leave Zambia unbeaten but still searching for their first win of the tournament. Their final group match against hosts Morocco on Monday will be a stern test as they aim to push for a place in the knockout rounds.

ZIMBABWE
Zimbabwe began their Group B campaign with a 2–1 defeat to Egypt but showed improvement in their second match by drawing 1–1 with Angola. That result keeps them in contention heading into their final group game against South Africa on Monday. With qualification still within reach, Zimbabwe will be looking to produce a strong performance in a decisive COSAFA derby.
