NBA Trade Buzz: Warriors Reportedly Eyeing Mavs Superstar
The Golden State Warriors look old and over the hill this season, but the front office is apparently trying to fix that with a big trade.
New intel from NBA on Prime’s senior insider Chris Haynes on Saturday revealed that the Warriors could be eyeing a deal for superstar big man Anthony Davis of the Dallas Mavericks.
“I was told (the Warriors) are contemplating making a case to acquire Anthony Davis,” Haynes reported.
Haynes also noted that Dallas isn’t that excited by Golden State’s current tradable assets, which suggests that the Warriors would have to do some extra work to entice the Mavs.
“If the Golden State Warriors actually did want to make a true play at Anthony Davis, they would likely have to inquire some more assets, or involve another team,” Haynes said.
Bleacher Report’s Adam Wells, piggybacking on the reporting from Haynes, made a good point on Saturday about AD’s trade value.
“Davis’ value is also hard to parse out because of his age, injury history and contract,” Wells wrote. “He has only played in 25 out of 65 games with the Mavericks since being acquired as part of the Luka Dončić in February. The 10-time All-Star is owed $58.5 million next season and has a $62.8 million player option for 2026-27.”
Davis has faced a challenging 2025-26 NBA season with the Mavs, marked by persistent injuries that have limited him to just 16 games through December 27. Acquired in a blockbuster February 2025 trade that sent Luka Dončić to the Lakers, Davis has averaged 20.5 points, 10.9 rebounds, 2.8 assists, and 1.6 blocks per game while shooting 52.1 percent from the field this season.
His production has dipped from the prior year’s 24.7 points and 11.6 rebounds, reflecting health setbacks, including a right groin strain suffered on Christmas against the Warriors that forced him out early. AD has nonetheless delivered some strong outings recently, including 31 points and nine rebounds in a December 23 victory over the Denver Nuggets, and 35 points with 17 rebounds against New Orleans on December 22.
Over his 14-year career, the 32-year-old Davis has established himself as a dominant force, earning 10 All-Star nods and leading the league in blocks three times. Drafted first overall by New Orleans in 2012, he powered the Pelicans before joining the Lakers in 2019, where he captured a championship in 2020 and the inaugural NBA Cup in 2023. Career averages of 24.0 points, 10.7 rebounds, and 2.3 blocks reflect his elite two-way impact, though durability remains a concern, with only two seasons exceeding 56 games in the last seven.
