Queen’s Park v Partick Thistle – Match Preview

0 0

QUEEN’S PARK close out 2025 with a Glasgow derby at The city Stadium with Partick Thistle.

The Jags were the corresponding fixture opponents a year ago too – played out at The Wyre Stadium at Firhill.

Some 364 days later there are two different coaching teams in the dugouts, plenty of fresh players on the park and optimism on both sides of the Clyde.

Thistle last made the short trip to The city Stadium at the end of September, edging a close city derby 1-0 and the return fixture saw more goals north of the river, though none for Sean Crighton’s Spiders.

The head coach said his players are keen to put on an improved performance and follow on from last week’s excellent performance and 3-0 win in Airdrie.

The Season so far...

Both Queen’s Park and Partick Thistle made management changes in the summer – appointing from within, and it’d be fair to say both appointments have gone well.

Mark Wilson has led the Jags to second in the William Hill Championship table, while Sean Crighton has recruited a popular pack of players whose performances have won over the Spiders support.

While each team is at opposite ends of the league standings, they also had opposing results last week.

The Jags’ long-awaited return to north Glasgow after almost a month of away games ended in a scoreless stalemate with Raith Rovers, while Queen’s Park marched to an excellent three-goal victory over Airdrie in North Lanarkshire.

Thistle fired five goals in the previous meeting, but haven’t won an away game in the league since their last visit south.

On the other hand, the Jags are the only side Queen’s Park have yet to score against – losing both previous meetings 1-0 and 5-0 respectively.

The visitors will be without Lee Ashcroft for this one after the defender picked up his sixth booking of the campaign against Raith last week, and the same can be said for Spiders midfielder Roddy MacGregor after his caution at Airdrie.
