Jaylen Brown Closing In On Insane Larry Bird Record With Celtics
The Boston Celtics have raced out to an 18-11 start in the 2025-26 campaign, which is currently good for third place in the Eastern Conference. Much of that success has been due to the strong play of Jaylen Brown, who is quickly closing in on an impressive franchise record set by Larry Bird.
Brown has had to shoulder a heavy burden on offense this season, but he has made doing so look easy. In 27 games, Brown is averaging 29.4 points, 6.4 rebounds and 4.9 assists per game while shooting 49.7% from the field. Simply put, he’s turned himself into an MVP-caliber player.
During a recent heater he’s been on, Brown has scored 30+ points in seven straight games, which has put him into exclusive company. That is tied for the second-longest streak in franchise history alongside Paul Pierce, and if he can reach that mark three more times in a row, he’d surpass Larry Bird atop this exclusive leaderboard.
Anytime you get mentioned in the same breath as Bird and Pierce, that typically means you are doing something right. With Jayson Tatum sidelined as he works his way back from a torn Achilles tendon, Brown has elevated his game to another level to help keep Boston among the top teams in the league.
There is still a lot of basketball left to be played this season, but if Brown keeps playing at this level, the Celtics are going to be a very dangerous team moving forward. With a young crop of two-way wings emerging behind him, Boston has continued to get better with each passing game.
Brown will look to score 30+ points in his eighth-straight game on Friday night when Boston squares off against the Indiana Pacers. Tip-off for this game is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET.
